Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Meeting: The Delhi government held a review meeting on Tuesday (February 7) regarding cleaning of Yamuna and connecting every house with sewer connection. In the meeting, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inquired about the progress of Yamuna cleaning and ‘Har Ghar Ko Sewer Connection Project’ and gave necessary guidelines to the officials.

During this, board officials told that there are a total of 1799 unauthorized colonies in Delhi, in which about 16 lakh 18 thousand 80 houses have been identified. Out of these, 3 lakh 40 thousand 720 houses have been connected to the sewer network so far and work is going on for the rest.

When will sewer connection be available?
Officials told that 747 colonies are already covered by sewer network. Under the Chief Minister Free Sewer Connection Scheme, sewer connections are being given to 39 thousand 550 houses in 667 colonies, out of which sewer connections have been given to 38 thousand 960 houses and the remaining houses will be given sewer connections by March. Sewer connections are being made in 80 colonies by the Project Division. Out of 98 thousand 665 houses located here, sewer connections have been given to 46 thousand 498 houses.

what is the plan?
Officials said that the remaining houses will be given connections by September 2023. Sewer network work is going on in 573 colonies. Out of 7 lakh 77 thousand 151 houses located here, 2 lakh 46 thousand 581 houses have been connected to the sewer network and the remaining houses will be connected to the sewer network by December 2023. Sewer connections will be given to 4 lakh 45 thousand houses in 318 colonies under DSTP. Every house will be connected to the sewer network within 12 months of getting the land for DSTP, while there are many technical problems in 161 colonies, efforts are being made to remove them. Officials said that by December 2023, 9 lakh 15 thousand 366 houses will be connected to the sewer network and there is a plan to connect the remaining houses to the sewer network within the next one year.

The sewage coming out of the slum cluster will be tapped and taken to the STP. Where the sewage will be treated and sent forward. Officials told that there is also a plan to increase the capacity of Shahdara drain. For this, a new STP will be built so that the dirty water which is not treated after June 2023, will be treated by taking it to the new STP.

What did Arvind Kejriwal say?
Officials told that the command area of ​​the STPs whose capacity is being increased and new STPs are being built is in its vicinity. Officials said that in the old STPs, after treatment, the water quality ratio was 20:30 in many places and 20:50 in some places. Now all these are being upgraded and the ratio of water quality is 10:10.

CM Arvind Kejriwal said that one of our priorities is to connect the whole of Delhi with the sewer network, so that even a little dirty water does not fall into the Yamuna and Yamuna can be cleaned as soon as possible. He said that sewer connection to every house, Yamuna cleaning The action plan and projects to provide clean water to every household will now be reviewed every 15 days.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also reviewed the status of sewerage infrastructure in the context of Yamuna cleaning project. To ensure 100% treatment of sewage in Delhi, the Delhi government has identified 4 focus areas for increasing sewage treatment capacity. These include construction of 3 new STPs at Okhla, Delhi Gate and Sonia Vihar, construction of 40 new DSTPs, rehabilitation of 3 existing STPs and upgradation and capacity enhancement of 18 existing STPs.

Along with this, 40 new DSTPs of Delhi will add a capacity of 92 MGD to the sewage infrastructure. Of these, 29 DSTPs will be ready by December 2023. Through the rehabilitation of three STPs, Delhi government will add 70 MGD capacity to its network. Phase-2 of 25 MGD capacity of Kondli will be ready by June 2023. Rithala STP of 40 MGD capacity will also be ready by June 2023, while Yamuna Vihar’s 5 MGD STP of Phase II will be ready by September 2023.

The Kejriwal government is also working fast on the tapping of drains all over Delhi. The project includes tapping of major drains like Barapula drain, Maharani Bagh drain and Mori Gate drain as well as tapping of 76 minor drains of Delhi falling into Najafgarh, Shahdara and other major drains. A total of 48.14 MGD sewage will be treated as per the latest standards in the tapping of Barapula Nala, Maharani Bagh Nala and Mori Gate Nala. 242 MGD sewage will be cleaned by tapping 76 small drains.
